Teacher-Consultant
Board
Because writing
and teaching are best as collaborative efforts, the ISWP
formed a Teacher-Consultant Board in 2002 in order to encourage
best practices and reflective revision of teaching demonstrations
among new participants during the annual Summer
Institutes. The board members meet at least three times with
new participants of the ISWP. During these meetings, the participants
discuss ideas for teacher demonstrations, as well as ways to modify
these demonstrations so that they reflect what we've learned about
best practices in writing instruction. After the teachers have done
their demonstrations for the summer institute participants, the
board members meet again with them to discuss what they might do
differently and how they might revise these demonstrations so that
they are ready to take them "on the road" for in-services
and other such demonstrations.

Joan Glowacki

I have just completed my 31st year of teaching. I have taught grammar, reading and social studies to fifth graders at Eureka Middle School. I am also the Gifted Coordinator of Unit #140.
My husband, Kevin, is Director of Building and Grounds in the Fieldcrest School District. My son John is a manager at Menards in Carpentersville and my son Drew works for State Farm in Bloomington.

Kathryn Kerr

Currently Kathryn teaches at ISU. She has worked as a cataloguer, a secretary, a library tech, a photographer, a high school teacher, a botanist, a remote sensor, a natural areas ecologist, a technical editor, and other gigs. She is a poet, a parent, and a tree-hugger.

Darren Hedman

|
Darren Hedman teaches at Peoria Central High School in Peoria, IL. After doing his undergraduate work at Northern Illinois University, and student teaching in the suburbs of Rockford, he made it back to Peoria to teach in his hometown. His belief that education can be an agent for change keeps him optimistic about the future of inner-city youth. He is currently pursuing his Masters in English at Illinois State University.
